It was all fun as all my friends that heard that am back came to say hi to me, i earned a lot of respect from both elders and younger ones. I have make an arrangement to be going back to kaduna on the fifth day, spend the sixth day on road and rest on the seventh day before resuming back. A day before i decided to leave for Kaduna, i went out to buy my younger ones snacks at Mr Biggs in Sango. After buying everything i needed, on coming out of the Mr Biggs, i saw one of my secondary school mate. Her name is Ayomide, she was a commercial student while am a science student. I was so surprise as she has change drastically, her face, her b**bs and everything thing about her has changed totally. Not like when we are in school that everything looks small. I called her name!
Me: Ayomide!…
Ayomide: T Boy! What’s up (In an amazing voice)
Me: Ayomide!… (Surprised)
Ayomide:
Me: Waoo! Longest time
Ayomide: Abi ooo
Me: U looking cute
Ayomide: Thank!
Me: Oh boy! Gone are those days in school when u look small but now you have chop up
Ayomide: (Smiling) Funny u! You’re not serious
Me: So where u heading to
Ayomide: Am going to a friend’s house
Me: Really!
Ayomide: Yes, What about you
Me: I just came to bought some things for my younger ones here (Pointing at the Mr Biggs)
Ayomide: That’s nice
Me: Come on! Let go inside
Ayomide: Ok
Me: Hope you not in hurry
Ayomide: Not at all
Me: Alright
We entered inside the Mr Biggs and we sat down at the extreme end, I asked her what she would like to take and she said she’s ok with soft drink. I stood up and walked to the attendant, i asked him to give me one sprite with one table water and two meat pie. I asked him to prepare another ice cream and keep it aside. I returned back to the table where we sat down with what i ordered, i served her and we started gisting. We gisted about our school life back then, our teachers and how wicked they are, we both laughed. I asked her if she had gained an admission into university and she said she is still in the admission market. “What about you” she asked. I’m now a soldier, infact i just came to see my families. She was very surprised, “all within this short period” she asked in a surprised manner. “Na God ooo” i replied her with a smile on my face.
We’ve already spent close to an hour, she looked at her wrist watch and said “T boy, i have to go now”. Sure, i should also be on my way now. We both stood up and headed towards the entrance, i stopped by to collect the ice cream i paid for, i collected it and gave it to her. When we got outside!
Ayomide: Thanks so much am very grateful
Me: You are welcome dear! Less i forgot, please can i have your digit
Ayomide: Sure
Me: (Removing my phone from pocket)
Ayomide: (Collected my phone) +234080********
Me: Collected my phone from her, dialing her number
Ayomide: (Phone Rings)
Me: Alright! That’s my number
Ayomide: I will save it
Me: I will give you a call later in the day
Ayomide: I will be expecting
Me: Just take care of yourself
Ayomide: Sure! I will
Me: Bye
I make way to my house, i stopped and turned around to see her again. This girl is f-----g making sense, see as everything about her is just tempting, i think i have to give her a second thought, “i can’t allow this fish to pass me by”, I thought to my self as i stopped a bike man.
Little did i know that, that is the beginning of my problem….
Later at night, i called Ayomide and we spoked for about ten minutes. All that happened earlier that day kept on flashing through my memory, i was just imagining if it was the same girl i knew back then in secondary school, i started feeling like seeing her that present moment. “Does is it mean that I’m liking this girl or what”, I asked myself! I just can’t bear the feelings I’m developing for this girl, i closed my eyes (still imagining) and i slept off. I woke up in the morning, brush my teeth, took my bath, dressed up and ready to leave for Kaduna State. All my mum will offer me is prayer for journey mercy “i thought to myself”. After my mum prayed for me. My twin brother wanted to help me with some things to the park but i told him not to worry because the bags are not that heavy. That morning it was like am leaving something behind, the thought of Ayomide keep running through my mind. When i boarded Oyigbo bus, i decided to check if the number she gave me was on WhatApp. I opened my WhatApp application and refresh my contact list, i saw her name and i message her. It took her 16 minutes before she reply my message.
Me: Baby Girl
Ayomide: T how far
Me: Am fine and you
Ayomide: Cool
Me: How was your night?
Ayomide: Super B and yours
Me: Splendid
Ayomide: Glory be to God
Me: I just want to inform you that am on my way back to Kaduna
Ayomide: Really! Where are you now
Me: I’m inside Oyigbo vehicle
Ayomide: Alright! wish you Journey mercy
Me: Thank Dear
Ayomide: You welcome
Me: I will call you later
Ayomide: No problem
Me: Take care of yourself
Ayomide: Alright and you too
Me: Bye Dear
Ayomide: Bye
When i got to Abuja it was almost late at night, i have been sleeping since all this while. I removed phone from my pocket and i was surprise when i saw five messages from Ayomide on my WhatApp. I replied her immediately telling her that am sorry for not replying her messages since and that i was sleeping then. She came online and we chatted for about 20 minutes before she went offline. I got to kaduna at exactly 3:26am, i slept in the vehicle till morning before i proceeded to Kachia LGA. I called my mum and the rest of my family to inform them that i arrived at Kaduna safely, i called Ayomide as well and she was happy, she advice me to be a gentle boy, we both laughed together. I have to put some things in place now, i said to her before i hung up.
Most of us came back that very day while the rest joined us the last day. Class begins as usual on Monday and our passing out is fast approaching. After the third week in our last month, our passing out date that was announced, that’s a day everyone has been waiting for. The best student will be given an award as it was announced earlier when we were inducted into the course. That same day, our posting to our various unit will be made known to us.
On our passing out day, the first, second and third position was announced. I took the second position in a class of 130 students but i wasn’t that happy because i felt am far better than the soldier i lost the first position to. Award was presented to each of us with a sum of thirty, Sixty and a hundred thousand naira for the third, second and first position respectively by the school commandant. “I give all glory to God” was the last line of my vote of thanks.
Later that evening, we all assemble at the Headquarters in other to listen to where we were posted to. The names are going to be called in alphabetical order and i know i have to be attentive because my surname starts with letter “E”.
After calling about 23 names, i heard my name and my heart skipped, my ears were long and my eyes widely opened. “Gunner Elegbede Gabriel” i answered Sir. My unit was called. I sounds like “WHAT” (In a low voice).
I was posted back to Abeokuta, Ogun State. “Your state of origin” Gunner Emmanuel Whisper’s into my ear, i nodded in positive. “How could that be” Emmanuel asked me after we were been dismissed. “I don’t f-----g know” I replied. “We all know that we are fighting insecurity in the country, Bornu, Yobe and Adamawa States are the major states that most of us were posted to, some of them have started crying. Moreover, it has never happened in the history of Nigeria army that a newly passed out soldier was posted back to his own state to go and serve there”. Emmanuel further explained. Me myself wasn’t happy about it because i thought of the fact that i will be a little bit close to my hometown and to where my families resides, i wanted to serve in the eastern or northern part of the country where i will have to meet new people, learn different languages and most of all live an independent life. “Should i go and complaint so that it will be amend.” I thought to myself. While i was thinking about all these things, something brought Ayomide’s thought to mind. “This is an opportunity for me, at least i will be close to her, i will have upper hand to carry out my mission, I will even be able to visit her in Sango anytime i feel like” I thought to myself. It looks as if the thought alone ease my pain, i smile to myself. “I guess it God’s will” I concluded.
We left Kaduna the third day after our passing out, the journey from Kachia Kaduna State to Abeokuta Ogun State was stress free as a long luxurious bus was arranged for only 35 soldiers going to Abeokuta. I engaged myself with games and videos on my phone in order to keep the journey lively. I decided to called Ayomide and informed her about my posting as i have called my mum and my twin brother late that day after our posting has been announced in order to informed them.
Me: Dialing her Number (Ringing)
Ayomide: Hello
Me: Yeah baby girl

Ayomide: U are not serious, instead of you to be happy and thank God at the same time, you are here wishing yourself bad luck
Me: Hmmm! Who knows may be you are even the one that pray so that they will bring me close to you
Ayomide: Me! What is my problem with your posting
Me: Laughing! Don’t worry….
Ayomide: Funny you (In an awkward manner)

Me: Bye…
“Yes! At least i have make a move, she should know i am up to something” I said to my self after i hanged up.
